What to Do When You Feel Too Shy A Kid Guide to Overcoming Social Anxiety WhattoDo Guides for Kids Claire A B Freeland Jacqueline B Toner Janet McDonnell 9781433822766 Books Reviews
- My son has social anxiety, so I bought this book on a whim. We tried going to a therapist, but he was very unhelpful. This book has a worksheet in every chapter and helps open up a conversation about what social anxiety is. We worked on one chapter every night, and my 4th grader loved it. He's feeling more comfortable at school and even his teacher noticed a difference. So thankful to have found this book!
- I really love this series of books, we have found them extremely helpful!
This book, like the others, is very simply written and could be easily read by anyone about second grade and up. This one seemed to have fewer exercises and discussion starters than some of the other ones, but still spoke clearly and concisely to the problem at hand. Kids can benefit from reading this book on their own, but you can enhance this experience by discussing each chapter after reading.
This book specifically addresses social anxiety--when kids are afraid to talk to people--at stores, at school--anywhere really, because they have an irrational fear of being ridiculed or made to feel embarrassed. Thit book validates these fears (which are all too common even in many adults) and systematically walks you through attempting to overcome them. This book will not work for you if you are not committed to trying the exercises within and systematically completing the book, but is a nice way to address these issues, especially when you are not quite sure how to explain them to a child.
Again, these books appear to be written for younger children, and the examples within certainly reflect that, but the information is usable and useful for any age! - My son is really getting a lot from this. He is 7 years old and has been diagnosed with Autism. He doesn't care to color the pictures but he does all the other activities and you can really see it is helping him. Not to mention he is excited about going through the book. For something that has been so hard for him, it is as if he is gaining confidence just from reading and practicing what is in the book.
- This whole series is amazing. My son is 8 and it was perfect for him. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to help their kids with skills to manage anxiety. I have spoken with child psychologists who recommend this book too.
- My daughter is shy to the point of freezing in stressed moments. This is a great guide book to read and talk about together. I want her to be self aware and to know it's okay to be her.
- My daughter-in-law uses this book for counseling children to help them develop good character.
- Great book for my 7 year old grand daughter having issues at a new school....
- Just perfect for a shy 9 year old boy. He could relate!
