Can a city girl on the run find safety in the arms of a rancher?
Chicago restaurant owner Sabrina Marconi needs to hide. And fast. She just sent a mob boss to prison. A competition to become the cook on a cattle ranch in Nebraska might just be the safe haven this city girl is looking for. With a new name, Laura Marshall, and a new life, everything is going according to plan. Until she meets the ranch owner.
Ranch owner Caleb Kirkpatrick is a single dad with too much on his plate. The latest ranch expansion means he needs someone to cook for his men. His brother’s idea to have the cooks compete for the job might be the craziest thing he’s ever heard. Until he meets Laura, who seems to be the most unlikely candidate to be a ranch cook.
When the competition among the women gets fierce, someone decides to play dirty, and Laura’s cooking skills might not be enough. But if she doesn’t get this job, she has nowhere to go. Not to mention the growing feelings she’s having for her boss, feelings she tries to suppress.
The drama among the competing women is almost more than Caleb can handle. He’s got his hands full with missing equipment and dead cattle. But Laura isn’t like the others, and despite his best intentions, his feelings for her are growing. What is the secret she’s hiding? Will she ever trust him enough to allow them to have a future together? And will her Chicago past chase her down in rural Nebraska?

- There wasn't a whole lot of action or drama until the last couple chapters. Storyline and characters developed nicely, I prefer a little more drama in a story, this one had quite a few storylines going. I was thourghly impressed with Laura and how strong, independent, go getter, and smart.
- This was my first book by Julia Daniels and I’m so glad I read this book. Sabrina, now going by Laura, arrives at Morning Glory Ranch to compete for the cook’s position. Caleb, the owner, is a single dad to his son Conner. The chemistry is apparent from the beginning, but Angel, another contestant, decides to speed things along. Does she succeed or will Caleb turn her advances down? No spoilers, so grab your copy and see what happens. Be prepared for some surprises, while reading.
- I really loved the really great story in this book. I could not put the book down till I finished reading the whole wonderful story.
Thank you so very much for writing this wonderful story. - Laura answered an ad for a job for a cook on a ranch in a little town in Nebraska. But there are thing's she can't tell him yet. Caleb is a single dad, he and his brother run the ranch together. I loved the whole stort.
- This was such a good book. Such excitement, unhappiness and finally happiness. Hiding out and family using false identities and worry they will be found.
- Good story, but editing poor. It is distracting to be reading, and errors leap out. Steamy romance.
- Enjoyed this read very much. Recommend to all.
- Not realistic but ok. Dad worked for a mobster in Chicago, she had a restaurant there, she had no other connection to the mob. She isn’t in witness protection but... she gets a new ID? Well ok. Her family all separate for their safety, later her twin is tied with the mob? Ok. She goes to Nebraska with three other women to win the spot as cook/ maid/ nanny....really?? Here’s a spoiler....the first time they have sex....he has a fast trigger????(WTF??). Does he and our author think this was relevant?? And has this author EVER had a partner make sure she was satisfied too in the event of a “fast trigger “??🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂. Ok, ok I digress. Not a terrible book but not the greatest either I got this free from shifted sheets in exchange for an honest opinion.
